Anthropic, the Amazon- and Google-backed AI startup, has dramatically upgraded its financial projections amid surging enterprise demand for its AI models. The company now anticipates $70 billion in annual revenue by 2028—a fourteen-fold increase from this year's estimated $5 billion. This bullish outlook stems primarily from API adoption, with 2025 API revenues projected to double those of rival OpenAI.

The firm's Claude Code tool exemplifies this growth trajectory, with annualized revenue jumping from $400 million in July to nearly $1 billion currently. Revised forecasts show $15.2 billion for 2026 and $38.9 billion for 2027, with profitability expected by 2027—three years earlier than OpenAI's projected timeline. Anthropic's $3 billion free cash FLOW target for 2027 contrasts sharply with OpenAI's anticipated $35 billion cash burn that year.
